Interrupted Symmetry, Handwoven Tapestry by Rachel Brown, Hand-dyed Wool, 76.5″x41″, 1991

Interrupted Symmetry, Handwoven Tapestry by Rachel Brown, Hand-dyed Wool, 76.5″x 41″, 1991

Notes on this piece…

For this weaving, I started out with a geometric form design and planned to do the whole weaving in a symmetrical way where the top half was the same as the bottom half. But I got a little past one-third of the weaving and realized it was going to be too busy, so I decided to interrupt the design with horizontals. This was the first of my weaving’s where I interrupted the design with horizontals.” -Rachel Brown

Enjoy!

Spikes by Jon Chowning, 32" x 60"

Spikes by Jon Chowning, 32″ x 60″, Karakul and Churro wool, 2016

Notes on this piece…

This is Jon’s 1st tapestry! Yes, 1st!

Jon and his wife were students of mine about a year ago. From there, he has gone on to being relatively self-taught, only recently taking another class from another instructor.

This summer, he found himself a 54″ Rio Grande Walking Loom, allowing him to weave the larger pieces he enjoys!

Jon is a member of The Churro Club, as well as, our Mutual Admiration Society (you can head on over there and let him know how much you love his work!).

This piece was woven with a combination of Karakul yarn and our Medium Weight Churro Yarn… many of the colors are from the special color selection The Churro Club Members receive each month.

This piece was featured in our 2016 Churro Club Exhibition.

Enjoy!

White Lady, Handwoven Tapestry by Rachel Brown, Hand-dyed Wool, 43.5″x47″, 1994

White Lady, Handwoven Tapestry by Rachel Brown, Hand-dyed Wool, 43.5″x 47″, 1994

Notes on this piece…

I created this design by making some simple forms such as ellipses and stripes. I put the designs in those forms in black and white. This weaving reminded me of a story that I read, called “The White Lady.” It was about a white bat a man befriended, that came flying into his house every evening to visit him.” -Rachel Brown

This piece was woven with our 2-ply Tapestry Yarn.

Enjoy!
